Hand-painted ceramic bowl from Safi

A cultural asset of Morocco is produced in Safi: the green glazed roof tiles for covering mosques and medreses (Islamic schools). But not only that: in recent decades, Safi has gained a place among the ceramic strongholds. The hallmark of a ceramic bowl from Safi is its painting in a rather minimalist style. The motifs are often taken from Berber culture. Geometric shapes such as diamonds and triangles dominate, as well as floral ornaments such as flowers and leaves. Spaces in between are often filled with dots or rays. The color spectrum is huge, the most popular being green and red - the color of Islam and the color of love.

A ceramic bowl from Safi looks rather modern and is therefore ideal for those who are enthusiastic about Moroccan ceramics, but prefer a reduced style. As is customary in Morocco, all bowls and plates in Safi are made entirely by hand: from pottery to glazing and painting. If you look closely, you can even still see the brushstrokes.

Motifs from Safi can also be found on some of our hand-painted ceramic plates or ceramic bowls. Discover in this category also particularly beautiful pieces from the Moroccan royal city of Fez.
